evaluation part 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learned how to control a mac, it is different to a Windows computer, but is easy to navigate once you get used to it, i like some features better than windows computers, for example the easy navigation across different pages. It is great for using photoshop on as the screen is spacious and high quality.

I have learned lots about photoshop in my media class, this has helped me greatly in creating a magazine cover.

what i have learned about layers on photoshop

  • They do not destroy your original photo.
  • You are working on top of or on copies of that photo.
  • You will have more control.
  • You can use blending modes to change the way layers interact.
  • You can change the opacity of any effects.
  • You will have or can add layer masks so that you can work selectively on your photo with any adjustments you make

    evaluation part 4

The audience for my magazine Image are 16-25 year olds. this is a small age range for selling magazines, I have identified a gap in the market in which a lot of magazines could be sold. I am including things that they want to see so they will read the magazine, which is why on the front cover and contents page I have included sell lines that could be potentially prove to be very popular with these readers.

My magazine will be available as a digital version, you can subscribe on itunes, or on the internet, you will be able to view it on all devices including iOS and Android.url.jpg

    evaluation part 3

I would like IPC Media group to publish magazine because IPC media is UK based publishing House. IPC Media  is an institution that has a broad range of magazines and on the category of music it has only NME. NME is a very well selling music magazine, and I think if I can get my magazine published by them then it will be able to sell really well.

The conventions, the producer and target audience of my text

The conventions I plan to follow and keep regarding are the short and memorable title, which Is a large and dominant icon, and it will make clear the title of the magazine. The price will be shown on the front of the magazine on top of the bar code. The image will be clear and the subjects face will stand out, and they will also be making eye contact with the camera to draw readers in. The magazine cover will not have any thumb nails showing what is in the magazine, instead it will have sell lines and content teases, showing what is inside the magazine and drawing the reader in. The image will be dominant, full page image of the main article of the magazine, this will draw the readers in as they want to read about the big artist, the masthead will also go behind the artists head and some text will cover it at this is a common convention of a magazine cover.  I plan to not have any thumb nails because it will make the front cover clearer and make people read the sell lines instead of just looking at the pictures, this will attract people as it will look fresh and clean, and stand out from all the cluttered front covers on the shelf.

I would have ICP Media (Time Inc.) to produce the magazine as they produce many major titles including New Musical Express, popularly known as NME, they will produce the magazine as they already distribute to my target market of teen agers from ages 17-18. I have researched the company and they seem large enough to get the magazine out to major distributors such as supermarkets, corner shops and shops such as W.H smiths, it will also be able to be sent to homes as subscriptions.  I will also be assured of the quality, it will be a high standard and I will also know they will be distributed on time as it is a reputable company.

The target audience of my magazine is teenager’s ages aged 17-18 who are into hip hop and R&B music, the magazine will be about all types of music, but will mostly feature popular artists of the hip hop culture. There will be no specific gender as music is open to everyone and your taste in music isn’t specific to your gender.

    Colour Scheme

This is my colour scheme, I have only used these colours throughout my magazine, apart from the masthead on the front cover, and the images on each page. I have used this colour scheme because it fits well with the magazines theme, the colours stand out but are still quite plain, this is a good effect and exactly what i want for a music magazine.

    Audience Reasearch

These are the results i got on the surveys i made for my market research.

By looking at the information i got, i can see that my target audience is both genders from ages 13 to 17, the most listened genres of music are Dubstep & Rock, but Drum & Bass follows closely behind and then, house, but R&B and Rap only got one vote, making the magazine unlikely to get readers. The readers want to see "info about bands/artists" so i will include this in the magazine. The magazine will be priced at £2.50 as 42.9% of the vote was for that price. I will have incentives to entice people to buy the magazine as 100% of the people said they would like them, band merch was most voted to be the incentive of choice. The magazine will be released once per month as that is how often people read music magazines.

    Rationale

Colour usage: the colours I will use are going to be a white background with an image using a vector image of a person so the background is still white, I will have black text for titles and the main writing. I will have red and grey effects around the outside, it will be modern looking and have, a look which stands out compared to other magazines.

Image use: the image i will be using will have been taken in a studio so it looks more professional, it will have a white background and and be high key. The model will be dressed like a singer and be posing, i will edit in other effects to the image so it looks better. I will retouch the skin and enhance features to make it look like a magazine. It will be a full body shot and be straight pointing at the model.

Text usage: the text will be whats inside the magazine and pull quotes not much because the main focus will be the main image and the masthead.

Layout and font: The layout will be as shown on the image and the font will be something that looks smart.

Colour Usage: The colours will follow the colour scheme of red, white and black. It gives a good, simple but effective look and is appealing to the eye, it will have grey outline, with black text, he black text is easier to read. The masthead, will have a red rectangle background behind it, this will make the text stand out more.

Image use: The images will be references to pages, and have smaller images of what will be on each page, the images will have descriptions in the features, to tell people what the pages are about. I will use previously edited photos, to get a professional look.

Text usage & font: The text will be information on what is later in the magazine as it is a contents page, the fonts will be as listed on the fonts page

Layout: the layout will be as in the picture it will look clear and flow better.

Colour usage: the colours will fit the colour scheme of the magazine, with red, black and white.

Image use: The main image will take up the whole 1st page of the double page spread, and fade into the 2nd one giving a smooth look.

Text usage & font: The text is an interview with the artist featured on the double page spread, it talks about the artist and related things to do with them. The font is the same as the rest of the magazine to continue with the theme.

Layout: The layout of the double page spread is as shown in the image, it will also have text which fades into the background and has shadowed effects on to show contrast to the main body text.

What emotional impact do you want your photography do have upon the reader? How?

The image will attract the readers to look at them, the one for the front cover will attract the customer to read the magazine, and the other images on the contents page and double page spread will attract the reader to look at the article.

What personnel do you need? Who are you going to photograph?

I am going to photograph myself, I will set the camera up and get my firend to press the button, I will take them in my photography class so this will be easier

    What props will you need?

I wont need any props as my photos are just of artists

How are you going to emphasise colour?

I’m going to emphasise colour by having colourful clothing, but I am keeping the colour scheme light except from the double page spread, which will be low key

    Have you briefed your personnel/models?

I have briefed my models and they know exactly what they’re doing, they will do the poses I tell them and I have people to help me with the lighting

What lighting will you need? Any other equipment?

I will need a soft box and a snoot to correctly light the photograph, I will have one high key photo and a few low key photos

Where will you shoot? Will you need a backdrop?

I will shoot in my photography class on a white backdrop

    Make-up? Costume?

There will be no makeup as I will just Photoshop the pictures and the costume will just be ordinary clothes as we are modelling as music artists and other celebrities

    Proposal Form

Describe your idea for the brief: my magazine will be called ”Printed Beats” it will be based on music with bass in it so will have lots of images relating to speakers and headphones in it. The colour scheme will be black, white and a light blue, this is because it is a fresh look and is appealing to the eye. On the double page spread I will have an interview of an artist or band, it will be on one side of the page and on the other will be a large image, the text will be in a smart font with a white background.
Genre/ sub genre: The genre of my magazine is going to be a mixture of a few, mostly genres with bass in it, such as, drum and bass, dubstep, R&B and rap. This will effect the composition and the colour scheme, as it will have to be sharp and modern as the music genres are. An example of a magazine similar is spin, it is a dubstep magazine and looks modern with bold colours.
Target audience: the gender l for the magazine is aimed at everyone boys and girls, this will be reflected in the colour scheme, and the composition, also the font and images. The age range is teenagers, but anyone can read it, as long as you like the types of music, even people in there 20s can read the magazine.
Major conventions I will use: I will have the masthead behind the main image on the front cover of the magazine; this is to give significance to the main image on the front cover. I will use strap lines and headlines to draw readers in and also fill up the page more. On the double page spread I will have quotes and strap lines in front of images on one side, and text on the other side, to draw readers in.
Conventions I may subvert/ change/ not use: I may not use the classic layout, I think I will use something different to make it stand out from the rest, like putting some text in places that It wouldn’t be placed, for instance across the main image.
Original images: what/ where/ what: I am going to take my own pictures in my photography class, with a white background, this will make the image easier to edit, also it will be taken with a high megapixel DSLR camera to make them high quality, I will have someone posing with headphones on and make them look as if they are listening to music, this will draw my target audience in.
Potential difficulties/ Plan B: potential difficulties for the magazine are finding the correct font to suit the magazine, if I cant I will use the plainest font so it doesn’t look bad.

    Media Production

    Photo shoot planning document

What emotional impact do you want your photography do have upon the reader? How?
The images will draw the readers in and want them to read the magazine; they will be bright and eye catching, i will make them large and hight megapixel so they are a good quality, i will add effects to make to colours more vibrant and the background whiter, i will make the image look overall better to draw the reader in on the front page. The contents page will have the same but not as eye catching so they read the information. The double page spread will have one large image fading into text so will be large and eye catching.

What personnel do you need? Who are you going to photograph?
I am going to photography myself and friends in my photography class, this is the easiest way to do it.

    What props will you need?
I will not need any props as someone is going to pose as a singer or artist, they may have headphones if it doesn’t look good in the first pictures.

How are you going to emphasise colour?
I am going to use effects on Photoshop to make the images colour look good.

    Have you briefed your personnel/models?
Yes, I have told them what they need to do and how they should do it, I have shown them how to work the lighting and also how to pose for the images.

What lighting will you need? Any other equipment?
I will be using studio lighting and have a soft box to light the model, I will use a bright light on the background so there are no shadows from the model.

Where will you shoot? Will you need a backdrop?
I will shoot in the studio at shiney row college, I will have a white backdrop because it will look good on the magazine, and look more professional.

    Make-up? Costume?
There will be no makeup as I will just edit on Photoshop, and the outfit will be just normal clothes as it is singer.
