The conventions, the producer and target audience of my text

The conventions I plan to follow and keep regarding are the short and memorable title, which Is a large and dominant icon, and it will make clear the title of the magazine. The price will be shown on the front of the magazine on top of the bar code. The image will be clear and the subjects face will stand out, and they will also be making eye contact with the camera to draw readers in. The magazine cover will not have any thumb nails showing what is in the magazine, instead it will have sell lines and content teases, showing what is inside the magazine and drawing the reader in. The image will be dominant, full page image of the main article of the magazine, this will draw the readers in as they want to read about the big artist, the masthead will also go behind the artists head and some text will cover it at this is a common convention of a magazine cover.  I plan to not have any thumb nails because it will make the front cover clearer and make people read the sell lines instead of just looking at the pictures, this will attract people as it will look fresh and clean, and stand out from all the cluttered front covers on the shelf.

I would have ICP Media (Time Inc.) to produce the magazine as they produce many major titles including New Musical Express, popularly known as NME, they will produce the magazine as they already distribute to my target market of teen agers from ages 17-18. I have researched the company and they seem large enough to get the magazine out to major distributors such as supermarkets, corner shops and shops such as W.H smiths, it will also be able to be sent to homes as subscriptions.  I will also be assured of the quality, it will be a high standard and I will also know they will be distributed on time as it is a reputable company.

The target audience of my magazine is teenager’s ages aged 17-18 who are into hip hop and R&B music, the magazine will be about all types of music, but will mostly feature popular artists of the hip hop culture. There will be no specific gender as music is open to everyone and your taste in music isn’t specific to your gender.

Colour Scheme

This is my colour scheme, I have only used these colours throughout my magazine, apart from the masthead on the front cover, and the images on each page. I have used this colour scheme because it fits well with the magazines theme, the colours stand out but are still quite plain, this is a good effect and exactly what i want for a music magazine.

Audience Reasearch

These are the results i got on the surveys i made for my market research.

By looking at the information i got, i can see that my target audience is both genders from ages 13 to 17, the most listened genres of music are Dubstep & Rock, but Drum & Bass follows closely behind and then, house, but R&B and Rap only got one vote, making the magazine unlikely to get readers. The readers want to see "info about bands/artists" so i will include this in the magazine. The magazine will be priced at £2.50 as 42.9% of the vote was for that price. I will have incentives to entice people to buy the magazine as 100% of the people said they would like them, band merch was most voted to be the incentive of choice. The magazine will be released once per month as that is how often people read music magazines.

Rationale

Colour usage: the colours I will use are going to be a white background with an image using a vector image of a person so the background is still white, I will have black text for titles and the main writing. I will have red and grey effects around the outside, it will be modern looking and have, a look which stands out compared to other magazines.

Image use: the image i will be using will have been taken in a studio so it looks more professional, it will have a white background and and be high key. The model will be dressed like a singer and be posing, i will edit in other effects to the image so it looks better. I will retouch the skin and enhance features to make it look like a magazine. It will be a full body shot and be straight pointing at the model.

Text usage: the text will be whats inside the magazine and pull quotes not much because the main focus will be the main image and the masthead.

Layout and font: The layout will be as shown on the image and the font will be something that looks smart.

Colour Usage: The colours will follow the colour scheme of red, white and black. It gives a good, simple but effective look and is appealing to the eye, it will have grey outline, with black text, he black text is easier to read. The masthead, will have a red rectangle background behind it, this will make the text stand out more.

Image use: The images will be references to pages, and have smaller images of what will be on each page, the images will have descriptions in the features, to tell people what the pages are about. I will use previously edited photos, to get a professional look.

Text usage & font: The text will be information on what is later in the magazine as it is a contents page, the fonts will be as listed on the fonts page

Layout: the layout will be as in the picture it will look clear and flow better.

Colour usage: the colours will fit the colour scheme of the magazine, with red, black and white.

Image use: The main image will take up the whole 1st page of the double page spread, and fade into the 2nd one giving a smooth look.

Text usage & font: The text is an interview with the artist featured on the double page spread, it talks about the artist and related things to do with them. The font is the same as the rest of the magazine to continue with the theme.

Layout: The layout of the double page spread is as shown in the image, it will also have text which fades into the background and has shadowed effects on to show contrast to the main body text.
